WINE FANDANGO: a dinner celebrating 1 month in Spain!

WINE FANDANGO: a dinner celebrating 1 month in Spain!

Just like that, 4 weeks have passed since taking off at Sydney Airport. Las chicas and I have settled ourselves into little Logroño, pulling through challenges with bureaucracy, language and landladies. This to us denoted the right to a celebratory dinner at one of Logroño’s best – Wine Fandango.

Recommended to us by past ICS’ers, I merely had to glance at the menubefore booking a dinner…

HOW TO: settle into a new country

HOW TO: settle into a new country

image

It’s nearly been 1 month since I left my family home in Australia to travel 18,000 kilometres to Logroño, Spain for my year of study abroad.
Ten hours of time difference, another native tongue, a new university and my first time living out of home are just some of the challenges I’ve confronted!

Nevertheless, after these 25 days, I’m feeling reasonably settled in. After talking to another…

A Weekend in Zaragoza

A Weekend in Zaragoza

‘There really is no excuse for not travelling this year’, I told myself as the week went on. Due to the fact that prior to this year I went from Uni, to work, to Uni to occasional social events, I had some inertia when las chicas started talking about travelling on the weekends. My inert reaction was ‘DON’TSPEND MONEY’, with the conscious stream kicking in and reminding me that I spent 3 years…

Famous Pintxos (tapas) de Logroño!

One of the first things on the list when travelling to the small city of Logroño is to visit and indulge at the acclaimed ‘Calle Laurel’ (and lesser known ‘Calle San Juan’). Here you’ll find nearly 100 tiny, crowded, living and breathing ‘Pintxos’ bars, some serving just one perfected speciality dish, and others a vast variety.

Pintxos is essentially the Northern Spain version of Tapas, a…

Moving abroad / out of home/ to a country with a different language!

Moving abroad / out of home/ to a country with a different language!

What a week it’s been. I can’t believe this time last week I was in Australia, 30°C+, with my family!

On the 1st of the 1st, 2019, I boarded a plane, said goodbye to my family and my home. The travel was as expected with no issues (thankfully!). After about 26 hours of plane travel, the 5 of us arrived in Madrid at 7am in the morning… and a temp of -4°C.

HOW I’M PACKING FOR STUDY ABROAD

HOW I’M PACKING FOR STUDY ABROAD

Hola de nuevo a todos! Welcome back to that weird period between Christmas and New Years. All I’ve done (apart from starting to pack) is swim, eat, watch TV and play with my pup, Theodore (refer to last week’s blog for a pic!).

Although I was feeling pretty nervous this time last week, having our annual Christmas as a little family really helped me to feel some sort of closure. Traditions that we…

In Country Study: The 10 Day Countdown is here!

In Country Study: The 10 Day Countdown is here!

After 3 years of anticipation, four subjects of Spanish, two subjects of international studies and countless hours spent on research, departure day is *finally* on the horizon.

January 1st is 10ish days away.

Despite all of the excitement and anticipation over the past few years, I keep finding myself in a state of anxiety for my year abroad in Logroño, Spain. This year will be my first move away…

Clinical Placement in Second Year Nursing: What you can expect…

Hola a todos!

What a year it’s been, and it’s already August! I can’t believe how quickly the year has flown by, and how close I am now to my exchange year (only 5ish months away). Today I wanted to share a couple of insights from my most recent clinical placement in a busy medical/surgical ward, on morning shifts (7am-3:30pm).

As I’m at a bit of a weird position in my nursing degree due to doing…
